Master of Accountancy Program

Alabama State University's Master of Accountancy degree program began in the 1998 Fall term.

The Accounting and Finance Department of the College of Business Administration at Alabama State University offers a Master of Accountancy Program that provides a competitive advantage in today’s job market.  Most states have mandated that candidates complete 150 hours of college-level coursework to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam.  Master of Accountancy graduates are prepared to pass certification examinations such as CPA, CIA, or CMA, etc., enter middle management positions in accounting, and pursue future study in terminal degree programs. ASU Master of Accountancy graduates are employed by CPA firms, industrial corporations, and government agencies.

Admission requirements include a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale); satisfactory scores on the GMAT and TOEFL; three letters of recommendation; and one-page statement describing career goals and work experience. Financial assistance is available in the form of grants-in-aid, loans, scholarships, student employment or a combination thereof. Interested parties should contact the School of Graduate Studies, Alabama State University. Course work includes 30 semester hours of credit beyond the baccalaureate degree. Accounting core courses are: Auditing, Taxation, Information Systems, Managerial/Cost controllership, and Fund Accounting; and electives: Theory, Financial Reporting, and International Accounting and Business. The non-accounting business courses include Finance, Business Law/Law for CPAs, Economics of the Firm and Environment and Managerial Communication.

Currently, three or four classes are offered each semester.  These classes usually meet on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:45 and 7:00 to 8:15 during the Fall and Spring Semesters.  For the Summer Semester, classes meet Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 7:35 p.m. and 7:45 to 9:50 p.m. (Each class will meet twice weekly).
