ASU receives business
award
Alabama State University's College of
Business Administration has been awarded a
Department of Education Title VI Grant through
the Business and International Education (BIE)
Program. The grant proposal, entitled
"Globalizing the Business Curriculum at Alabama
State University," will gain $179,000 in funding
for the College of Business Administration over
a two-year period beginning July 1, 2007.
The BIE grant is designed to instill an
international perspective in College of Business
Administration students, faculty and local small
business owners and to prepare them with the
knowledge and skills to operate in a global
business environment.
Many of the grant activities involve academic
course development and programs that will
benefit both undergraduate and graduate
students.
Faculty training in international education will
also be an important factor in these programs.
The College of Business Administration will
partner with the Alabama Automotive
Manufacturers Association to develop and
implement business outreach programs.
Other activities include study-tours to South
and North Korea and to the Honda, Hyundai and
Mercedes-Benz automotive plants in Alabama. The
College of Business Administration will also
enter into a mentor-protégé program with Wilcox
County's Central High School and help the school
prepare and encourage students to study
international business in college.
The grant was co-written by Dr. Percy J. Vaughn,
dean of the College of Business Administration
and Dr. Kamal Hingorani, chair of the Department
of Computer Information Systems, and is
supported by matching contributions from ASU.
